Shuttle Scuttle

The space shuttle Discovery flew her last mission today, strapped to the back of a Boeing 747. I watched from the penthouse balconies of my work building as she looped low over the capital’s airspace. Since we’re right across the street from NASA (& we’re in one of the tallest buildings in Southwest) we had an amazing view.

The spacecraft is to take up permanent residence in the Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center, an annex of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, Virgnia.

I saw it too. It flew low on the Anacostia river with an F-16 escort!! I was hoping the payload bay would open and candy released from the shuttle no such luck.
